Enhanced wellbeing services launched at Isle of Wight’s charity support centre

Wessex Cancer Support’s Newport centre on Lugley Street provides free personalised emotional and wellbeing support to anyone on the Isle of Wight affected by cancer.

The centre was refurbished in 2019, with the support of the local community. Since then, client numbers have continued to grow.  Over the past few weeks there have been some positive developments as the Island staff ready to help the community as effectively as possible.

Liz Tapsell has been announced as the new centre manager, responsible for overseeing the delivery of services including counselling, therapies, and both group and drop-in sessions. Liz, who has been a previous client and volunteer in the centre, was promoted from her role of centre co-ordinator.

Liz said,

“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead Wessex Cancer Support’s services on the Island.

“I’ll be working hard to further the charity’s connections in the local community to ensure everyone who would benefit from our support, knows where to find it.

“I’ve already been working closely with Laura, the Isle of Wight’s regional fundraising manager, to give the centre a spruce up, including a lick of paint, swap around of rooms, and a good clear out.”

Laura and Liz are excited to welcome the Island community into the fresh new space.
