Following the Bonchurch landslide earlier in the week, Leeson Road, Bonchurch remains closed.
However, Newport Road (Upper Ventnor) will be reopened at 5pm Friday, as reported by News OnTheWight earlier today.
A a hard closure at the Shanklin end of Leeson Road has been proposed by Island Roads and will be implemented this evening (15th December).
This will mean no one can access Leeson Road from the Shanklin end; any residents who do need to access their properties will need to do so from the Bonchurch side.
Ventnor closure moved higher
The road closure at Bonchurch Shute will be moved higher up to Leeson Road to enable access to Lower Leeson Road premises.
The hard closure will be in place at the high side of car park, just above the Smugglers Haven Tea Gardens. Whilst the intention will be to reopen the road when it is safe to do so, the closure will need to remain in place whilst monitoring and further technical work is undertaken to enable an informed decision on when the road can be reopened.
Still being monitoring movement
Monitoring arrangements are being put in place now, and the further technical work is being commissioned and is expected to start in January.
We will continue to work closely with Island Roads and other partners to monitor the situation for any further changes.
We want to keep disruption to a minimum and make sure road closures are removed as soon as it is safe to do so.
