Environment Agency updates on falling water levels in Eastern Yar amid rain forecast

The Environment Agency have issued an update to yesterday’s flood alert.

The latest, issued at 2.36pm on Wednesday, reads:

The water level in the Eastern Yar is now steadily falling. Due to the saturated nature of the Eastern Yar catchment (60mm of rain has fallen in the last 9 days), the river remains responsive to relatively small amounts of rain.

Showers are forecast today and tomorrow (04/01/24), from mid-day through to mid-night, heavy rain (20-30mm widespread with isolated totals of 45mm) is forecast.

If realised, this may result in a flood warnings being issued for the Upper (Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge, Alverstone) and Lower (Sandown, Brading and Bembridge) Eastern Yar.

Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating.
