Listen up folks, because what follows is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in something quite special.
Next week sees the return of Ergo Phizmiz to Quay Arts with a FREE three (try saying that after a few pints of Golden) day workshop.
This is a unique opportunity to participate in the creation of a new 12-part radio play from one of the leading practitioners of sound-collage, Ergo Phizmiz (WFMU radio, Soleilmoon Recording, Gagarin Records).
“The Faust Cycle” tells the story, through narration, song, original composition, and sound-collage, of a visit to the house of the infamous alchemist Dr Faustus, and the many strange and musico-nonsensical adventures which take place there.
As part of the production of the piece, Ergo is inviting young people from the Isle of Wight to collaborate and participate in the creation of sections of the work through this free three day workshop at QuayArts.
We’ll also be running something in tandem with this over the coming weeks on VentnorBlog – keep your eyes peeled.
Participants will be working with their own and collaborative ideas to create pieces of wordplay, music, and sound-design (facilitated by Ergo Phizmiz with Island composer Jack Phoenix), plus an introduction to the principles and techniques of podcasting and Internet radio (with a talk from the Island`s own digital wizard Simon Perry, of VentnorBlog.com – oo-err).
There will also be a live presentation of the work-in-progress, and a performance from Ergo Phizmiz on Wednesday evening at 6.30pm.
The finished work will be podcast and broadcast internationally in 2009, with an album release of selections of the work released on USA label Soleilmoon Recording (all participants in the workshop will receive a free copy of this album).
All in all this sounds like a great opportunity for any young people to be part of something quite great and splendiferous.
“The Faust Cycle” is supported by Arts Council England & Soleilmoon Recordings.
