Expert background on possible BAE / EADS merger

Earlier this week, news leaked that Britain’s defence company BAE Systems and Airbus-owner EADS are in advanced merger talks.

BAE, employs quite a number of people on the Island.

We thought it might be useful, rather than speculate about something we’re not qualified to write about, to bring you expert opinion, in the form of videos.

Any potential merger is not without major hurdles.

FT running ‘Doubts grow’ headline
As of yesterday evening, the Financial Times was running the headline ‘Doubts grow over EADS and BAE tie-up’, opening with “Governments and shareholders have reacted with caution and scepticism to a plan by EADS and BAE Systems to create a $48bn European defence and aerospace group to rival Lockheed Martin and Boeing of the US.”

EADS is under joint French and German Government ownership, plus a small share owned by Spain. They mainly deal with civilian sales, in particular Airbus.

Here’s a conversation between two FT reporters about it.
