Staff and supporters at Ryde Arena were informed on Saturday night that the rink would remain open until 11th April, rather than close as planned this week.
Planet Ice had previously announced the rink would be closed on 25th March. The announcement sparked a huge campaign to save the facility from closure.
A Trust has been formed to help save the rink and the extension was given at the weekend in order to provide more time for negotiations and fund-raising.
The great news for the Island’s ice hockey team, the Wightlink Raiders, is that it means they can finish their season.
