Exxon Mobil, a major international oil and gas corporation, is set to engage with the public regarding its plans to establish a new carbon dioxide (CO2) pipeline.
The Solent CO2 Pipeline Project aims to connect Exxon Mobil’s Fawley oil refinery near Southampton to a designated CO2 storage site beneath the English Channel.
Critical step for carbon capture and storage
According to Exxon Mobil, the proposed pipeline is an essential component for the introduction of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in the Solent area.
This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions, aligning with broader environmental goals.
According to Exxon Mobil the pipe from the Fawley Petrochemical Complex would lead to a carbon reduction equivalent to removing five million cars from the roads each year.
