On the 28th July, six female family members will swim the Solent to raise funds for the charities St Catherine’s and Smile Train.
Their challenge will start in the early hours from Lepe Beach near the mouth of Southampton Water. The team will brave over two miles, aiming to finish at Gurnard Beach, hopefully in time for lunch.
The team is captained by Jacky Bean and is made up of her two daughters, Alice and Emma; daughter in law Heather Dobson; sister Celia and niece Ellie Carleton. The support team consists of the men in the family.
Supporting two charities
Their motivation for this endurance adventure is the hard work of two charities close to the team’s hearts, St Catherine’s and Smile Train.
Ventnor based charity St Catherine’s works with children and young people with speech, language and communication impairments.
Smile Train believe that every child born with a cleft anywhere in the world has the opportunity to live a full, productive life.
“Safety is very important for such a challenge; we will be crossing more than two miles of busy shipping channel. A great deal of care is being taken to ensure the safety of all involved and we all have all put in a lot of training.” – Jacky Bean
