Fancy Becoming a Town Councillor?

Ventnor East Election: Still Time For NominationsIf you’re still pondering on whether to stand for the Ventnor East Town Councillor vacancy, you’ll need to get your skates on.

The closing date for nominations is noon this Friday. All you/they have to do is contact either Clive Joynes on 823 341 or Ventnor Town Clerk, John Farrant, on 855 162.

If you didn’t see previous our article about the vacancy, you may have missed the comment from the newest Ventnor Town Councillor, Debby Robinson.

As the newest member of Ventnor Town Council I thought I should add an encouraging note for any prospective candidates for Ventnor East.

It’s a common misconception that being a town councillor takes up an unreasonable amount of an individual’s time. Take it from me, you do not have to be retired or a house wife/husband to cope. Although I was elected last December my business has not gone bust, my social life is healthy and my family survive.

Providing you are over 18, are not a criminal or a bankrupt you can stand. You don’t have even have to live in the ward. Just be nominated by two people who do and who are on the electoral register.
Town or Parish Councils are the smallest unit of democracy that we have. If you want to make a difference to real lives – yours, your family, your friends and your community – become involved.
Yes, your town really does need you.
