Stitch Department are hosting an exciting evening at Department, inspired by Fashion Revolution week.
Fashion Revolution week is a fantastic initiative that campaigns passionately for a clean, safe, fair, transparent, and accountable fashion industry.
Value people over growth and profit
We believe in a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit. This week happens every year around the time of the anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse.
This week really resonates with our beliefs at Stitch Department, so we are hosting an event to celebrate this.
We will be joined by guest speakers, Rosie, owner of Roake Studio (pictured right), and sustainable fashion writer, Hannah Rochell (pictured left).
Preloved clothing sale
We will also have a preloved clothing sale and exhibits from Island creatives.
This is also a great opportunity to discover the exciting plans for this beautiful former department store. We also have a really exciting programme of workshops to coincide with this event.
What is Stitch Department?
Stitch Department is a local clothing practice that is passionate about the environmental impact of the fashion and textiles industry. That’s why we strive to encourage you all to sew, mend and generally slow down the fashion process!
We run several sewing workshops at Department in Ryde, a former ladies department store that is soon to be transformed into a community arts space.
We run a range of classes
Our workshops welcome everyone, with a range of classes and a great chance to be with like minded sewers and get excited about your projects.
We have our in house seamstress, Amber (who has a first class honours in BA Fashion), as well as guest tutors like Sue Field, the most fantastic pattern cutter and all round clever lady. We hope to expand our guests in the future to have the most interesting and packed programmes.
Where and when
The Fashion Revolution event takes place at Department, 29-30 Cross Street, Ryde PO33 2LL on Saturday 22nd April between 7pm-9pm.
Tickets are £5 each and are available through Eventbrite.
