The field was introduced in the Princess Beatrice Garden at Carisbrooke Castle in 2010. It was established by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin White, as a place where residents can pay their respects around the time of Remembrance Sunday.
The castle will open its doors for people to visit the field between 10am and 1pm on Thursday 6 November, as well as on Saturday 8 November and Sunday 9 November between 10am and 4pm (but not Friday 7 November).
Crosses can be purchased at the castle with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion.
Public welcome to formal service
A formal service of remembrance, which members of the public are welcome to attend, will take place at the castle on Thursday 6 November at 10.45am.
Following the service, refreshments will be available with proceeds going to the Isle of Wight Women’s Institute.
This year six local schools will be involved with the service, as well as students from the Isle of Wight College.
Isle of Wight Council chairman, Councillor Ian Ward, said:
“The field of remembrance and the service will give people the opportunity to pay their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. This year will have special significance as it marks 100 years and 75 years since the outbreaks of the two world wars.”
