Fire and Rescue Service Public Consultation Meeting (South Wight Area)

Thanks to Harry Windsor for sending through this information which will be of interest to many readers in the wider Ventnor area. Ed

St Wilfred's Church Engulfed by FireMany people will be aware of the proposed changes to the IW Fire & Rescue Service taking place on the Island.

If you have an interest in the provision for the South Wight area you might want to head down to the Ventnor Winter Gardens at the end of the month for a presentation on the proposals.

A number of options were put forward for this area and considering all points from other options, it was agreed to go with Option 5.

It was agreed that this option would be achievable within three years as opposed to five in other options. It is also affordable in terms of capital and revenue costs.

The Project Board therefore agreed that Option 5 is the preferred Option as follow.

“¢ Ventnor
“A new station located on St Boniface Road with 1 Retained pump.”

Ventnor’s patch covers Wroxall, Whitwell, Niton, St Lawrence, Chale and Bonchurch.

Is one fire engine for that massive area safe? Is it safe for the fire fighters?

As many will remember, St Wilfred’s church fire alone had eight fire engines on scene.

Cuts cost lives.

Come along and have your say on the proposals.

And how much will be spent on propping up this not fit for purpose floating bridge, which the Tories have continued to waste money on for four years EVEN THOUGH engineers and practically every islander has told them to get rid of it and not throw money into this money pit? So much money being wasted on it with pushboats, breakdowns, etc. And local engineers say that… Read more »

£300000 on two sets of average speed cameras. Is this seen as an investment opportunity by the Council? Where is the money to prop up the floating bridge hidden. Guess another £1m needed this year.

300k for average speed cameras, does this include the labour cost to run per year,so here is another stealth tax, first we are now adding the cost of hampshire fire service, now we are paying extra for a service the police should be carrying out ?what next ?better not give them ideas.
