If you are planning to cross the River Medina on the Cowes Floating Bridge this morning (Friday), be sure to read on.
Although the bridge has been out of action for almost four months, it returned to service on Monday morning.
Just four days later a problem was spotted (Thursday) meaning it will be out of service between 10.15am this morning for two hours.
It was spotted yesterday that a pin which connects the inner and outer prow hinge was found to be missing. According to official sources, this was due to an oversight by one of the contractors who didn’t cap the pin to secure it.
This morning, whilst the service is suspended, a replacement pin will be fitted and secured.
Just a quick update regarding the Floating Bridge service after its return to service this week. It has been a largely successful return to service for FB6 with upwards of 1800 vehicles carried across the river since Monday morning.
Cllr Karl Love, the Isle of Wight councillor for East Cowes told News OnTheWight,
“Whilst an irritation and not something we wanted to hear, at least it is a problem caused by an oversight which can be swiftly rectified and not an integral drive/hydraulic/ram fault, as we have experienced all too often in the past.”
Christmas Eve is generally a quieter day for traffic, but a passenger launch for foot passengers and cyclists will be in operation during 10.15am and 12.15pm.
