A Flood Alert from the Environment Agency (EA) is in force for the Eastern Yar with flooding possible on the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.
Residents are warned to ‘Be prepared’.
The Flood Alert issued this lunchtime reads:
The water level in the Eastern Yar remains high. Since 14:00 yesterday (21/11/2022), only 1mm has been recorded at Wroxall.
At Alverstone, the river is falling at a rate of 2cm per hour. Residual minor flood impacts will be affecting roads, cycle tracks and footpaths in the Upper Yar Valley.
At Sandown, the river is just beginning to peak, and will start to fall later this afternoon (22/11/2022).
Minor impact flooding will be affecting Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road. Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.
For the rest of today (22/11/2022), the weather should be mostly dry allowing the river a chance to recover.
On both Wednesday (23/11/2022) and Thursday (24/11/2022), up to 20mm of rain is forecast. If this affects the river, the water level will begin to rise again.
We continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating.
