Flooding causes disruption across the Island

As predicted by the Met Office this week, heavy rain has caused problems with flooding in certain areas.

The Isle of Wight council say, “Flooding has led to the closure of Redhill Lane (Godshill to Wroxall), and Southford Lane (Niton to Whitwell). Extra caution advised for motorists in the Niton area generally which is particularly waterlogged.

Ryde esplanade closed
“If you are heading to Ryde Pier or Hovertravel this morning from Easthill Road, please take an alternate route due to flooding.”

They go on to say, “Environment Agency and fire service have been working with pumps to manage water levels at Monktonmead, Ryde. To accommodate this work, road closures are in place on the Esplanade, (now open) the Strand and Simeon Street. There are no reports of flooding to property.

“Access to Wightlink and Hovertravel unaffected by Esplanade closures.”

Two hours ago, they issued the following, “Flood Alerts in place for the Eastern Yar, Monktonmead Brook, Ryde, and Gurnard Luck.”
