Flood sign on country road

Flooding expected to continue in Sandown and Bembridge, warns Environment Agency

The Environment Agency have issued an update to the Flood Alert that is in place for Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

Residents are still advised to ‘be prepared’.

The update reads:

The water level in the Eastern Yar at Sandown remains high, but is falling slowly by 1cm per hour.

Flooding to Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road, Sandown, will continue throughout today (Tuesday 07/01/2025). Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain over the next 24 hours.

At Bembridge, water levels in the river have been getting higher after each high tide cycle.

It is possible from around 19:30 this evening (07/01/2025), some garden flooding could occur at Nicholas Close, Brading. Property flooding is not expected.

At Alverstone, residual flooding impacts will reduce as the river returns to normal. Minimal rain is expected to affect the Isle of Wight during Tuesday (07/01/2025).

Further rainfall (up to 15mm) is forecast on Wednesday (08/01/2025). The river will remain responsive to further rainfall. We continue to monitor the forecast.

At Bembridge, sluice gates are operating to allow more water to flow out to sea. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens from flooding are operating.
