Heat or eat turkeyThe Isle of Wight’s Footprint Trust has launched a hard-hitting appeal aimed at highlighting the miserable Christmas that many families will face this Yuletide.

In a special appeal leaflet the Trust makes the point that many Island families will be making the choice between heating and eating.

It’s cold. It’s Christmas Eve and you’ve got £10.

Do you buy food for your kids?

Or put the money on the meter?

Shouts the text which the Trust is using to make the point, that many families use expensive pre-payment meters for their energy.

Ray Harrington-Vail – The Trust’s holder of the National Heat Hero award said,

“We come across many young families and pensioners who are already making the choice between heating and eating. In the long-term we can get their home insulated or provide an energy efficient boiler. But they need help now. We provide duvets and emergency heating. We also get many people a discount on their power…”

“The Footprint Trust is dedicated to working with the Island’s community. This year we were given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, for our ground-breaking work.”
Added Colin Withers, a Trustee for the local charity.

“Islanders will be pleased to know that the Footprint Trust spends less than 4% of it income on administration. We do not have any highly paid executives, or pay for professional fund-raisers, or pester people in the streets with chuggers!”

Those wishing to make a donation towards the charity’s work can do so online or contact them on (01983) 822282.

Leaflets about their work, which contains a donation slip, can be found in local libraries and in the Riverside Centre.
