Fostering Fortnight Gets Underway

The Isle of Wight Council’s Fostering and Adoption Team is travelling the Island and visiting supermarkets in various towns as part of this year’s Fostering Fortnight.

The annual event is held between 14 and 28 May and a road show staffed by fostering and adoption officers alongside carers will be available on different days.

It is an ideal opportunity for anyone thinking of becoming a foster carer to speak to staff and current carers. Anyone who registers their interest will be invited to an open evening held later in the summer.

Roadshow schedule
The road shows will be based at the following supermarkets between 11am and 3pm each day:

All take place in May
14 Waitrose, East Cowes
15 Lidl (car park), Shanklin
17 Tesco (car park), Ryde
18 Co-Op, Freshwater
21 Morrisons (car park), Lake
22 Sainsbury, Newport
23 Co-Op, Ryde

Dawn Cousins, the Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for children services, said; “Fostering is not just about caring for a young child, it can also be about becoming foster parents to teenagers and young adults.

“Fostering Fortnight is an ideal opportunity for anyone to come along and speak to staff as well as carers themselves to hear first hand what being a foster carer is all about.”

Annual event
Foster Care Fortnight, co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, is an annual UK-wide awareness campaign which raises the profile of fostering and highlights the need for more foster carers.
