The Isle of Wight is not alone in the level of public service cuts it’ll see over the next few months.
It’s a situation that’s hitting councils nationwide and this coming weekend a march, organised by the TUC (Trades Union Council), through the streets of London is expected to attract over 100,000 people who’ll be marching to “defend jobs and services; call for fair pay for public service workers; protect pensions; protest against the unnecessary and unfair cuts and the threat of privatisation”.
Free coaches from Isle of Wight
The IW branch of Unison have organised a number of coaches to transport those who wish to take part in the ‘March For The Alternative’ up to London and back again.
We’ve been told that there’s only a few spaces are left on the coaches, which will be leaving the Island early on Saturday morning.
The coaches will be leaving Newport (Coppins Bridge car park) at 7am sharp. If you can’t make it to Newport, meet at Fishbourne car ferry terminal at 7.30am for the 8am ferry.
The return coach will be leaving London at 5pm aiming to catch the 8pm ferry back to the Island.
There is no cost for the travel, as it is being completely covered by Unison.
Route of the march
The march will assemble at the Embankment, London at 11am and make its way through Whitehall and onto Hyde Park where a rally will take place between 2-4.30pm.
