Many thanks to Richard for sharing this news from Friends of the Animals. Ed
Friends of the Animals, a small national charity with strong roots on the Island, is appealing for dog owners, who have either received veterinary help for their pet from the charity, or who have kindly rehomed a rescued dog, to join forces at a fund-raising Double Diamond Day Garden Party in Bembridge on Saturday 6 July.
Organiser Jillie Wheeler, who was recently awarded the British Empire Medal as part of The Queen’s Birthday Honours this year, said that she wanted to drive home the invaluable work carried out by the charity.
Jillie, who is well known for her amazing jet black German shepherd dog Cassie who has helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds on the island said,
“Many people on the Island are aware of Friend of the Animals through its island wide collections and Newport shop, but some are still unaware of the many ways in which it helps and rescues animals from simply appalling conditions.
“I would be grateful for anyone who has been helped by Friends of the Animals to contact me by email at [email protected], or alternatively by phoning Vi on 01983 875557, so we can show visitors what we as a charity can achieve.”
