The creativity of Island pupils will be showcased and celebrated in a new art exhibition opening at Newport’s Quay Arts this weekend.
Children and young people from across the Island submitted work for the annual ‘PEACH’ art exhibition, which runs from Saturday 18th March until Saturday 8th April in the Clayden Gallery.
Movement theme
This year’s theme was ‘movement’, whether this be the depiction of physical movement or relating in a broader sense to change or social movement.
The eclectic display has been curated by the Isle of Wight council’s Public Health – Partnership for Education, Attainment and Children’s Health (PEACH) team and Ian Whitmore at Quay Arts.
Around 20 local schools took part in the project.
Good health and education
We know that good health and education are linked and PEACH aims to better support schools in improving the health and wellbeing of their pupils, staff and families through PSHE, healthy eating, physical activity and emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Evans: Showcasing and celebrating both the great work
Lynda Evans, PEACH educational lead, said,
“Building on the great response we had from schools last year, this year’s PEACH art exhibition allows us to bring PEACH into the wider community, showcasing and celebrating both the great work that takes place in schools and the creativity of our Island pupils.
“This has been an inspirational project from start to finish. Projects like this are vital for ensuring that everyone gets the chance to explore their creativity. Huge congratulations to all the students for their amazing work!”
The exhibition is open daily from 9am until 5pm and is free to attend.
