Thanks to Carol for latest news from Ability Dogs 4 Young People. Ed
At the end of September, the Ability Dogs for Young People Charity teamed up with Perfect Pals Dog Group and ran a joint Dog Agility Show and Car Boot Sale at Brading Roman Villa. It was an enjoyable and successful day, raising some much needed funds and the sun came out too.
Bonny from Perfect Pals, launched her K9 Island Games: Dogs competed to win novelty classes and get the fastest time around the agility ring. Well done to all who competed and to those who won.
At the same time, we organised a car boot sale in the adjoining field. There was over 25 stalls ranging from jewellery to books, clothes to cushions, mechanical parts to toys.
The Explorer Scouts and 2nd Ryde Sea Scouts came along to help with car parking – as well as safely directing the traffic; they seemed to be enjoying the sunshine (I’m sure there was some dancing going on!). Thank you to all the scouts who helped – without them we could not have managed.
More about the charity
Ability Dogs 4 Young People, a newly formed charity, is training assistance dogs for young disabled people here on the Island.
As these young people (aged 16-24) start their journey into adult life and look to increase their independence by going to college or work, our highly trained assistance dogs will provide practical help with tasks like picking up dropped items and opening doors.
With a jacketed assistance dog by their side, they will have more confidence to go out on their own and, as importantly, more people will come and talk to them (about their dog).
