Go Orange 2012 For Independent Lifeboats

Good to see that Go Orange Day returns this February to the Isle of Wight. Independent lifeboats rely on the support of the public, so fundraisers like this are vital to their future. Ed

Last February the three independent lifeboat stations based at Ryde, Freshwater and Sandown painted the Island Orange as they joined the rest of the Independent lifeboat units in the UK on a fundraising campaign to raise the profile of the unit and bring in much needed money for their cause.

With the support of local businesses, schools and general public they managed to raise over £15,000 and on February 10th 2012 they plan to do it all again!

Continuous fundraising vital
These independent units are crewed by volunteers and all fundraising is co-ordinated from within the four walls of their headquarters.

All monies raised go directly towards the operational running costs of the units and the current fundraising campaigns for specific equipment or capital costs. With running costs of between £30,000 and £70,000 each year you can see why it is so important for continuous fundraising.

Show your support and get involved
All the crews will be out and about fundraising on and around the 10th February and if you would like to support them there are many ways you can help.

For more information or to help please contact your local unit directly, or the event organiser for the Island on 812 178.
