If you’ve never been to a Gospel concert or have an would love to attend another, “Gospelish”, taking place tomorrow night (Friday) at St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor is for you.
The concert will feature traditional and contemporary Gospel music sung by the award-winning Medina Community Choir, directed by Hannah Brear.
Songs include Oh Happy Day, Joshua Fought the Battle of Jerricho and Steal away, asa well as modern classics like Bridge Over Troubled Water and Circle of Life.
The monies collected at the concert will be divided between St Catherine’s Church and the choir fund, who are currently fundraising for their tour to the South of France in 2013.
Soloists will include Cyrus Dean, Jacqui Beck, Tina Meagher and Hannah Brear.
It will be an uplifting, moving and inspirational evening of music and refreshments will be served at the interval. Tickets on door. Starts at 7.30pm but best to arrive early to secure seating.
Eight hour Singathon
Following this concert, the Choir, who recently sang with Lesely Garrett and performed to 55,000 people on the main stage of The IW Festival in 2010, with Woodstock legend, Melanie Safka, will be holding an eight hour singathon to raise money for Island teacher, Paula Newton, who is giving up her summer holiday to go and work in a school and orphanage in Mombassa, Kenya.
The money will help fund her trip and buy equipment for the school she will be working with.
Medina date
After that, on 25th July, the Community Choir will be holding its main summer concert of Number One Hits at Medina Theatre.
Songs will include It’s Raining Men, YMCA, Lady in Red and Sex is on Fire!
