Yesterday (Monday) morning saw a great crowd of residents turn out for the grand opening of the new outdoor adult fitness park in Ventnor.
Thankfully the weather was the exact opposite of today, with blue skies and glorious sunshine beaming down on the park.
As we mentioned last week, the project has been spearheaded by fitness instructor Steph Toogood with the help of Evelyn Knowles and funding from the Big Lottery.
Fantastic asset to Ventnor
Along with the other residents who turned up to check out the new park, we think it’s excellent. There is a range of equipment for working different parts of the body, all looking very sturdy and not at all complicated.
Steph explained that she would be volunteering her time once a week to be at the park offering advice to anyone using the equipment (we’ll keep you updated on when this will be).
Nick Percy officially opened park
After giving her opening speech, Steph handed over to Evelyn who spoke with high praise about Bonchurch resident and award-winning athlete, Nick Percy.
Anyone who knows of Nick’s successes in athletics would concur with Evelyn’s suggestion that is a great role model for young and old.
Nick untied some of the balloons attached to the equipment to officially open the park.
Support from Ventnor Enhancement
A brass band made up of members from various brass bands around the Island kept the mood jolly with seasonal tunes and Ventnor Enhancement provided free refreshments to the hungry residents as many tried out the equipment.
Well done to all involved, this is a great positive addition to Ventnor amenities.
You can find the fitness park by walking through Ventnor Park, up the slope and it’s round the corner by the coastal path.
