Top Gear Isle of Wight Car: Do You Know Its Origins? (updated)

Those of you who watch the TV programme, Top Gear, may have seen the India special over the Christmas period.

the carQuite a few readers got in touch after a car with an old Isle of Wight ‘DL’ numberplate was shown.

The presenters were challenged to driving across India in British cars and an Austin Allegro with the number plate YDL 825T was given as their back-up car.

Update: Although we had many VB readers get in touch, saying they’d spotted the DL numberplate and could we find out more, VB reader TimHo checked the registration on the RAC Car Checker website and confirmed that it is actually YOL not YDL!
