Gum Fu: Interview with Team (Podcast)

A couple of weeks ago we went along to the premiere of a new Streets Ahead production which was created in association with the IOW Chlamydia Screening Programme.

Street Ahead

You might remember also, that last week we published a podcast with Sarah Stringer, chlamydia screening coordinator, but she wasn’t the only person we spoke to that evening.

We still have several interviews to come, but next up is a podcast of a chat we had with some of the the Street Ahead team.

To say they were enthusiastic would be an understatement. It was heart warming to talk to such positive and motivated young people.

Rosie, Emma and Kieran explained how there were many problems at the beginning of the Gum Fu project, as the team leader who had been with them for the last year left early on. It took some time for them to find their feet, but eventually everything fell into place.

Gum Fu is the third film that the team have made, with others including Timeline and Dr Uggs, as well as working on smaller projects such as with the MadCap team last year on the murder mystery project and the soapbox derby.

Gum Fu: Enter The Clinic:Streets Ahead is basically a youth club, which anyone between the ages of 13-19 can get involved with. They meet once a week on Wednesday nights and are particularly keen to get more young people involved.

They explained that you don;t need any special skills to be part of the team, just bags of enthusiasm (and good manners). In return you’ll be able to pick up loads of new skills related to film making, such as story-boarding, acting, camera work, costumes, editing etc.

They went onto express what an achievement it is to work on a project for several months and see the end product, knowing that they hard work has lead to something successful.

We think they have done a fabulous job on this film which is planned to tour Island schools.
