Gutless Kayaking appeal for support vessel for charity world endurance record

Justin Hansen

Islander Lynn Lansbury has been in touch with OnTheWight hoping that our readers may be able to help with this appeal. In her own words. Ed

Justin Hansen takes getting out on the water to an extreme.

Justin and I met as mature psychology students at the University of Portsmouth and his charity fund-raising, gutless-kayaking, is a truly inspiring and incredible story.

In 2010 Justin and team completed their first awesome paddle raising £20,000 for research. Justin has short bowel syndrome and lives his life on artificial nutrition, challenging enough on a daily basis let alone in sporting endeavours.

Your help needed for world endurance record
Next month Justin will attempt a world endurance record and the team are seeking an additional support vessel.

I’d like the message to get out to the vessel owners of Wight or anyone else who would like to contribute to this amazing feat.

To find out more about Justin’s challenge, check out his Website. If you’re able to help, you can contact him through the site.

You can also follow him on Twitter.

What for? Hopefully not a Princess Di style wail-in?
Sorry guys, but this seems to be going way OTT.

It is a very sad case for both dogs owners, but the ones that are aggresive and bite are generally not welcome in the community.Just like humans that are aggresive and kill,we put them in prison,in certain countries around the world they get the some treatment as going to the vets.
Why expose yourselves in public to every dog hating fruit loop that lives on the Island.

This was posted on VB Facebook by Luisa Francesca Hillard. Dogs, like children, can sometimes do things that horrify and embarass us. Without knowing the history of the dog we cannot know if it was a ‘bad’ dog, or if this was just some horrific shock attack. My own dog was suddenly attacked by a black labrador once – it got her whole head in it’s mouth… Read more »

I agree that this is awful, but I cant help wondering if the puppy owner is rather enjoying this publicity. If thats true, she needs to reflect on why she’s actually doing this.

Very sad for both dogs.

and why would you want to wonder something so hurtful in public?

Simon Haytack

I don’t think any of this is attention seeking. For the owner of the puppy, orgainising a walk sounds like a good way to remember the puppy, and it’s not as though there’s actually going to be a ceremony or funeral etc. At the end of the day, the publicity this has drawn has helped to raise a lot of awareness on the issue of badly raised… Read more »

Supposing, just supposing…that a 19 year old lady had a Staffordshire bull terrier who attacked and killed a cute little puppy who’s owner happened to be a full-grown, tattooed, beer-drinking, male. Do you think that the second dog would have been ‘destroyed’? Do you think that the man would seek revenge? Do you think that the man would want justice for his puppy? He’d probably say to… Read more »

‘supposing, supposing’!!! and then you go onto ‘suppose’ hahaha

Not a very good example because if my little puppy had been killed by a staffy, they wouldn’t have had to wait for the vet to kill it.

Brilliant Don! I love this site. It’s much better than having to go to the pub for a bit of banter! Sit at home, drink cheap beer, and have much more fun winding people up! (You always know when you’ve won; it’s when they start getting offensive)

(You always know when you’ve won; it’s when they start getting offensive) Its when they start getting offended… not offensive. Its you and your comments that try to wind people up for your own personal amusement that are offensive. Do you really have nothing better to do? I think perhaps if a dog owned by this girl had killed another dog then exactly the same outcome would… Read more »

O.K. I’ll answer you Holyneutron – if no one else will. Yes, I’ve got two dogs. Both are brown male labradors, one is six and the other is 4 months. I’ve also got three cats, and a budgie. I did have a black rabbit until about two months ago, but unfortunately it was eaten by a fox. (truthfully!)…perhaps I’ll organise a walk in his memory. And before… Read more »

a delightful menagerie.
Just interested to know that’s all.
Personally i can’t abide pets.
Just surprised that you, as a pet lover, would want to use this kid’s heartbreak to get your ‘wind up’ kicks.
Still, each to their own on these lonely Sunday nights.

A dog walk for a deceased dog? I would suggest that Ms Nutbourne ought to do a few days in Earl Mountbatten Hospice. The heartache and sights she would encounter there would soon put a dead puppy into perspective. I wager all those parents with children in hospital, some of whom are sitting at the bedside in an intensive care unit, (as I have) would be amazed… Read more »

Mr Mullery, I don’t think it was compulsory for anyone to attend. I think one of the reasons it was done was to raise awareness that dogs should be kept under control in public places (such as on the beach) and the terrible consiquences that can occur when they arn’t. I would suspect that this was the main topic of conversation between those who attened. In my… Read more »

It’s this sort of opinion that leads to silly by-laws. ‘All dogs must be kept on a lead’- I hear them shouting! Then it’ll be, ‘All dog walkers must be proceeded by a man waving a red flag’!

Well clearly Steve the owner of the Staffy should of had a red flag infront him! Lets put things into perspective, any dog ‘by-law’ which protects the public (especially children) from injury or treading in something unpleasent on the beach (or anywhere elses for that matter) surely cannot be regarded as silly. What is silly is having a by-law which isn’t enforced (such as the beach dog… Read more »

Last year Cowes lost its blue flag award during Cowes Week(water quality) because of all the whoopsees that were floating out of The Medina. Not many dogs tend to go sailing or use a baby blakes.I would rather tread in it on the beach than swallow it while swimming!

Flipping hell Sam, I agree with you! The owner of the ‘Staffie’ DID have a red flag; He was heavily tattooed and was drinking from a beer can, and had a Staffie! You don’t need telling..you can see the man is a ****! and likely to be troublesome. (Ryde seems to have far more than their fair share of these types!) Now then, the reason for the… Read more »

Most people who badly treat animals usually have an agressive nature towards human beings as well.
As a deterrent, anybody found guilty of mistreating animals should in my view serve a prison sentence, be given psychiatric help and be banned from keeping animals for life.

Asite2c, I agree with you. I detest ill-treatment of ‘pets’. It’s much more common than you think. You can tell when an animal is ill-treated by it’s relationship with it’s owner.

Getting attacked by a dog not only causes physical injuries but can cause long term psychological problems. A friend of mine got attacked by an Alsation over 30 years ago and still finds it difficult to get near big dogs. If dog attacks on humans and other dogs continue to increase, then in my opinion, some type of legislation should be brought in where most dogs will… Read more »

Also for someone so upset that her dog was killed, she was has got herself a new puppy already………..
