You don’t need highly-tuned detective skills to know that the Isle of Wight has been shrouded in a thick fog since early this morning.
Not surprisingly, this has had a knock-on effect for cross-Solent ferry operators. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you would have seen the regular updates.
The Hovertravel service is reportedly back to the normal winter timetable now, but was having to run a shuttle service earlier.
Wightlink
As at 10.30am Wightlink reported:
- Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry is running around an hour behind schedule
- Portsmouth to Ryde Catamaran is running 15 minutes behind
- Lymington to Yarmouth is running a shuttle service
By 12.24, this was updated to
- There is a slight delay on our Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry and the majority of passengers are unaffected
- Our Portsmouth to Ryde Catamaran has a delay of only a few minutes and we expect it to be back on time shortly
- Our Lymington to Yarmouth route has been running a shuttle service but we expect it to be back on time by 1300
Red Funnel
Red Funnel haven’t escaped the problems either, their latest update reported
Due to dense fog in the Solent the 1030 sailing from Southampton and East Cowes will be delayed by approximately 30 min

The Car Ferry service still has a delay of 20 minutes, we hope to make up this time over the next few hours :)
The RedJet service, also affected by delays, is running a shuttle service with a crossing time of approx 40 minutes.
Update: The Red Jet service will resume its normal timetable at 15.45 from SO and 16.15 from WC.
