Help Maria reach her Ration Challenge target of £3,000

Today (Monday) is World Refugee Day and so the perfect day for a timely update on Maria Villa Vine’s ration challenge.

Maria explains,

“I completed the Ration Challenge on Saturday and it has given me such an insight into how difficult it must be to live on rations as a refugee.

“Obviously I was lucky in the fact that I had a comfortable bed to sleep in at the end of the day, I was not struggling to access cooking utensils to cook my rations with or the fact that I do not live in a war zone and the fear of being uprooted at any time was not a concern, but on reflection having completed the challenge I now understand how restrictive living on a restricted diet -which was the same as a Syrian refugee would live on for a week can be and how time-consuming it also is.”

Almost reached £3,000 target
Money raised through Ration Challenges will help provide food, healthcare and life-saving support to Syrian refugees and people who have been displaced in Ukraine, as well as supporting Concern’s (who run the Ration Challenge) wider work of ending extreme poverty in the world’s poorest places.

Maria has been overwhelmed by the support she has received. She told News OnTheWight,

“Through completing this challenge the donations that many wonderful people gave will give life-saving support to refugees in the form of emergency food and hygiene kits to the people who need it most.

“I am nearly at my target of £3,000 which is amazing as my initial target was a meagre £300!”

“Brought a tear to my eye”
Maria said the most inspirational moments for her have been the messages of goodwill from people who have donated. The one that really stuck with her was this lovely message,

“As a grand baby of a refugee I wouldn’t exist with out the kindness of people like you. Good luck! “

Maria says,

“This did bring a tear to my eye! A huge thank you from everyone who donated or wished me well as the world needs more positivity right now!”
