Historic Cowes Photos Go On Display in LibrariesA photographic glimpse into the history of Cowes can be seen at three libraries across the Isle of Wight.

A new slide show exhibition called ‘A Visit to Cowes’ is underway at Isle of Wight Council’s libraries in Newport, Ryde and Cowes. The council’s Heritage Service and Library Service are working together to provide the display.

The displays feature photos taken during the last 120 years, including pictures of Queen Victoria’s visit to Cowes and photos of yacht racing in the 1930s. More modern photographs include those of the America’s Cup Jubilee in 2001. They are displayed on TV screens in the libraries.

The display equipment was purchased through a successful funding bid to the Museum Development Service and has led to the “Bringing Museum Collections to Libraries” scheme.

The slide shows can be seen at each library until 26 November.
