Having not taken much notice recently of how many Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) are usually issued on the Isle of Wight, we thought we’d take a look at the latest figures.
At last week’s Full Council meeting (read coverage), Cllr Ian Stephens’ report revealed there were 1,631 PCNs issued in December 2014.
The report reads,
Parking Operations issued 1,631 penalty charge notices during December with 1,355 paid in full by the end of the month.
A total of 1,080 items of correspondence were received and 965 issued.
A total of 284 informal challenges were received. Two appeals were received this month and issued to an independent adjudicator.
Of the 1,690 penalty charge notices issued during November, 1,355 cases are closed with full payment received and to date 284 representations/informal challenges have been received.
We don’t have a direct comparison for December the previous year, but based on the report for 2010-2011, an average of 3,000 PCNs were issued per month. Given that, 1,631 PCNs for December appears low.
The reduction could be down a cut in the number of Enforcement Officers, or perhaps just residents being more careful.
