Set within one of the finest Roman sites in the UK, ‘Mythology’ is a major exhibition of new works by research-led artist, Howard Hardiman.
Through digital drawing and storytelling, his work returns us to familiar stories within Greek Mythology, but in unfamiliar ways.
Fascinating and compelling works
Artist and art mentor, Jonathan Parsons writes:
“The word ‘mythology’ means the exposition of myths. These fascinating and compelling works expose both the true content of the mythological stories that they represent and the lie that work made on a computer is in any way inferior to that produced using other methods and techniques.”
Resonating archetypes
Using a limited vocabulary of marks, Hardiman presents twelve digital drawing works as monumental portraits from mythology, as large giclée prints. The process of repeating each mark thousands of times becomes a form of meditation, symbiotically revealing a sense of time.
Howard Hardiman said,
“Art offers both a door to escape through and a mirror in which to confront this world. My work calls on woodblock prints and etchings from bestiaries to approach the question of how mythological archetypes continue to resonate with us in an age saturated by the immaterial.”
The exhibition previews on Thursday 1st October 2015 and continues until Sunday 31st January 2016. Howard will also be giving a gallery talk on Saturday 17th October.
A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition, with essays by artist and art mentor, Jonathan Parsons and Brading Roman Villa’s CEO, Adam Watson.
