There’s just two days until the grand launch of the second Big Art Auction for Ventnor Skatepark’s £50,000 fundraising challenge.
The first auction was so successful, that organisers had artists contacting them asking when the next one would be.
Work from near and far
This time, there are even more artists from off the Island donating their work to this great cause. Entries include a fabulous mixed-media doodle from comedian Phill Jupitus, as well as some rather fruity work from a skating artist across the pond, Kavin Cook.
Inspiring work
There’s all sorts of work on offer, street art, traditional watercolours, screenprints, photography, even this incredible chocolate cake by Jade Thornton from Petticoats and Thrills (see below).
On the theme of food, there’s even some kitchenware made from recycled skate boards by dedicated Ventnor skater and artist, Theo Bridgeman.
One night only
The quality of work being donated is outstanding and we’d highly recommend you pop along to the launch on Saturday night where, for one night only, you’ll be able to see the work in person before the month-long online auction opens.
Seeing the work in person gives you a better idea of the size etc. You can check out some of the work in advance on the Facebook event page.
What’s the money for?
Ventnor Skatepark launched their fundraising challenge earlier this year, hoping to pull together £50,000 in order to build a concrete skatepark and replace the current plywood ramps (that pretty much constantly need repairing).
You can see some of the preliminary designs for the concrete park at Saturday’s launch at Ventnor Exchange.
The bar will be open and Ventnor DJ, KafTan, will be providing the tunes. Bring some friends and make a night of it.
Kicks off from 7.30pm.
