We love hearing about creative projects on the Isle of Wight and this one from Medina High is brilliant one. Ed
The Island’s Specialist Arts College, Medina High School in collaboration with Isle of Wight Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership (AONB) and Natural Enterprise are launching an environmental art project, Flotsam and Jetsam.
Comenius Programme
Since 2009 Medina High School students have been involved in a Comenius programme funded by the British Council.
Over these two years, students and staff have visited partner schools in Italy, Spain, Czech Republic and Finland to debate issues surrounding climate change and work under the project banner: climate change changes choices.
The Comenius project concludes in June 2011 with a visit to the Isle of Wight by the six European schools involved.
To mark the end of this Comenius project we are looking to commission an energetic and inventive artist to work with students from Medina High to explore and highlight the impacts of globalisation and issues surrounding climate change and adaptation.
What’s the brief?
The brief is to design and produce a sculpture or installation made from sustainable materials (or materials appropriate to the project).
The structure(s) will be exhibited at a series of events and festivals next summer, beginning with Natural Enterprise’s Weathering the Change Festival 30th April-7th May 2011 in Newport, Isle of Wight.
