Investigation continues into fight in Ryde

Police are thanking the public and local businesses for their help with an investigation into a fight in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were called to the lower half of Union Street shortly before 2.50am on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

A 21-year-old man from Ryde was attacked by two men.

The assault left the victim with a serious head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

One man, aged 18, from Sandown, Isle of Wight was arrested on suspicion of assault, questioned by police, and released on bail until October 10, 2014.

Officers are grateful for the co-operation of members of the public who contacted police in response to an appeal for information.

The assistance of local businesses, particularly management and staff at Coburgs’ bar on Union Street, has been greatly appreciated.

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that the fight under investigation did not take place on Coburgs’ premises. The alleged assault happened in Union Street itself.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, including anyone who saw a second suspect with the following description:

  • White
  • Aged in his late teens to early 20s
  • 5 ft 11 ins to 6 ft tall
  • Slim/skinny build
  • Dark short hair shaved close to back and sides

He was wearing a long-sleeved light grey/ blue top, light blue jeans, and white trainers.
