Police are making a fresh appeal for more witnesses after an allegation of assault in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.
Officers were called by security staff at Ryde Regatta to the town’s Esplanade at 11.15pm on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
It’s alleged a 20-year-old man was assaulted by another man near Ryde Harbour. The victim received injuries to his face, which were not life threatening.
An 18-year-old man from Ryde, Isle of Wight was arrested at 11.32pm on suspicion of assault by beating. He was taken to Newport Police Station for questioning, and later bailed until August 28, 2011 pending further enquiries.
Investigating officer PC Scott Carine of the Isle of Wight’s Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said: “I’d like to thank all the witnesses who have come forward to give us statements already. However, the full circumstances surrounding this assault are not completely clear yet. Therefore, I’m appealing to any other witnesses who could have been in the area of Ryde Harbour during the town’s regatta between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, July 2. If you saw an assault or a confrontation involving two men, please contact the police.”
