We have gathered together arguably the cream of the Island’s visual artists for this weekend’s Isle of Arts festival. Even if you are not planning to come to one of the 40 plus great events on offer, you really should view our free Arts Trail exhibition.

From inventor Dan Roberts’ giant wooden bicycle and his poetry writing machine to Penelope Walford’s wonderful paintings of sea forts, there will be so much to see.

Sponsored by Style of Wight magazine
The Arts Trail, sponsored by Style of Wight magazine, is hosted in Ventnor Youth Centre, plus various restaurants, shops and galleries in Ventnor. It will feature work by artists Lisa Traxler, Celia Wilkinson, Martin Swan and photographer Julian Winslow.

The eclectic mix will also include hand-made globes from Ryde makers Greaves & Thomas, an exhibition by the Undecided Art Collective, plus work from budding artists at St Catherine’s School, Ventnor.

Live tree carving
Paul Sivell will be displaying some of his sculptures and carving the trunk of macrocarpa tree growing in the grounds of East Dene in Bonchurch, which is also hosting a selection of Isle of Arts comedy, drama and music events over the festival weekend. There will be places to sit and watch Paul work and he will have some pieces available for sale.

We are grateful for the support we have received from the Isle of Wight Council’s Youth Services, who have been invaluable in providing Ventnor Youth Centre and in helping us to make the exhibition possible.

Other venues
The other Ventnor venues hosting art exhibitions during the festival are Burfields, 38B High Street; Phileas Fogg’s, 11 High Street; Dixcey Studios, 5a Spring Hill; Bizzy Lizzy’s, 1 Spring Hill; Hillside Bistro, 30 Pier Street; and East Dene, Bonchurch Village Road, Bonchurch.

The Arts Trail is open from 12 noon – 4pm Thursday and Friday 18-19 April; and 11am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday 20-21 April.
