The coastguard do a fantastic, if not invaluable job for those who live close to or travel on the sea.
Today there were about 40 volunteer coastguard spotters in various locations on the Wight keeping an active eye over those taking part in the round the Island race.
We caught up with Chris Welsford who was covering Ventnor where, because of changing winds, it can be quite hazardous for sailors. He gives the mid-day overview of how the Round the Island event had gone in the morning and what’s involved.
