Near the end of last year, creatives on the Isle of Wight gathered for the first Island Collection Cultural Conference, hosted by the inspiring team at Hullabaloo.
The one-day conference celebrated culture, creativity, inspiration and prosperity on the Isle of Wight and was a chance for those interested in community aspiration and regeneration to hear more about current and future projects.
Creative Estuary founder
The day saw a number of speakers, some from the Island and others from the Mainland, beginning with a keynote speech from Sarah Dance of Creative Estuary.
This is an ambitious project with aspirations to transform 60 miles of the Thames Estuary across Essex and Kent into one of the most exciting cultural hubs in the world. It’s already seen many creative regeneration projects successfully take place and help make a difference to people’s lives.
The importance of creativity in all of our lives
News OnTheWight managed to catch some time with Sarah to hear her views on the importance of creativity and how it can help us look at the world in a slightly different way.
Sarah explained that the Creative Sector is the fastest growing sector in the UK in terms of economic outputs, and reminded us that creative thinking encompasses all industries.
The IW has much to offer
It was great to hear Sarah say that she believes the Isle of Wight has much to offer in relation to creative collaborations.
With five new National Portfolio Organisations (NPO) recently named, we’re confident there’ll be plenty of creative collaborations coming to the fore in the next three years.
