Near the end of August a new deli opened in town and having revisited it on Saturday afternoon, it’s great to hear that things are going well for the team there.
With Goodman’s continental deli a few doors down the road, some might’ve felt that were wouldn’t be enough trade for two delis in town.
Not so! Both delis are doing really well and probably because the focus of what they have to offer is so different.
The Island Deli is steered much more on providing Island produce, and you only have to look around the shop to see that they have achieved this magnificently.
The old favourites, such as The Garlic Farm chutneys, Island Mustard Co, Island Biscuit Co, Bowmans Flour Pasta can be found on the shelves.
In the fridges you’ll find quiches made at the Hilltop Hotel, Paul Murphy sausages and dry cured bacon, fish pates by Philips Fine Foods, crab meat from Blakes Fishery and dairy products from Rew Valley Dairy.
Meat pies, scones, cakes and biscuits are all made and sourced locally in Ventnor. If you fancy some quails eggs, they are sourced on the Wight, as is the delicious fresh bread which comes from the Village Bakery in Freshwater.
In the freezer you’ll find ice-cream and cakes (as pictured) by Calbourne Classics as well as ice cream from Minghellas.
In season local fruit and veg are also on offer, such as aubergine, cucumber, root veg, garlic, leeks and potatoes.
Finally if you fancy stopping for a coffee, a couple of tables in the window allow you to sit and watch the world go by as you enjoy refreshments or freshly made sandwiches.
Island Deli can be found on the 20 High Street, Ventnor, Isle of Wight PO38 1RZ (Tel: 01983 853344)
