Make a date in your diaries; 21st March 2015 will see the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra take to the Medina stage for their third concert of the season.
The concert will start at 7.15pm and the programme being performed will be suitable for all ages.
The concert will start with two orchestral masterpieces from Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin, the Polonaise and Waltz. These pieces (often played on Classic FM) will provide a very tuneful start to the evening.
Two Elegiac Melodies by the Norwegian composer Grieg will follow this grand opening. These two pieces, written just for strings, are again wonderfully melodic using tunes found in Grieg’s homeland.
Island soloist
Just before the interval, the orchestra will be joined by Island musician Siobhan Cosgrove 
for a performance of the Flute Concerto by the French composer Ibert.
Siobhan will be known to many Island music lovers as she is not only a regular member of the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra, but is also involved with many other Island musical groups including the Tritone singers.
Until recently, Siobhan used to work for the Island’s music service, however she now works as a freelance musician. Although a twentieth century work, the Ibert Flute Concerto is full of fun and frivolity.
After the interval the Orchestra will perform Gustav Holst’s Egdon Heath. This short tone poem aptly describes the bleak heath land found in the novels of Thomas Hardy, and Holst regarded it as his finest work.
Dvorak closes the concert
To conclude the concert, the Orchestra will perform the ever popular Symphonic Variations by Anton Dvorak. This will provide a grand finale to what promises to be a fantastic concert.
Tickets are on sale and have been for some time (as are all the remaining concerts in the season). Many of the best seats have already been taken, so it is advisable to book your seats as soon as possible.
