Island Roads buys new line painting vehicle

Island Roads has purchased a new vehicle that is especially suited to operating on the Island’s predominantly rural highway network.

It is capable of deploying both white and yellow markings using paint that includes minute glass beads to make the lines more reflective.

Previously Island Roads has used contractors to provide line marking but having its own dedicated vehicle means it can be more responsive and have around-the-clock access to the vehicle and crew Spencer Jarman (pictured) and Tom Engelhardt.

The new vehicle is also smaller than that previously used meaning it is highly manoeuvrable and particularly suitable for the Island’s network. It is also better suited to operating on active work sites meaning more highway schemes can be completed in their entirety rather than having to return to the site after resurfacing in order to put down the markings.

Island Roads operations manager Steve Jenkins said,

“This is a good example of Island Roads investment helping us meet the specific needs of the Island’s network.

“Residents will be seeing plenty of new road markings in the coming weeks and it is especially pleasing for us as a local company that we have been able to create two new jobs in order to deliver this improved service.”
