This in from Tom on behalf of Ryde Harriers. Ed
With torrential rain forecast and a new course for 2014 the signs weren’t good for an enjoyable race but a considerable number of athletes came home smiling as the rain held off for the most part and the virtually flat course was tailor-made for personal bests.
Running for the first time as a Ryde Harrier, Adam Tuck was the first Islander home as he finished strongly to just pip Paul Cameron from Isle of Wight Road Runners in the final mile. Adam also took around eight minutes off his pb to finish in a superb time of 1:20:34 whilst Paul was 1:20:59.
Ryde Harriers’ men continued their excellent season in the league standings as their first team all crossed the line inside 1:27 and all with personal bests. After Adam came Tom Blackwell in 1:21:34 then Bryan Jones in 1:23:43 and Simon Newman in 1:26:15. Peter Sexton (1:25:44), Simon Randall (1:28:01) and Tim Cordery (1:29:34) all from IWRR plus Simon McMorran (1:23:05) running for Stubbington Green completed an impressive group of eleven Island athletes inside an hour and a half.
There was a reversal of club fortunes for the women with IWRR Judy McCabe (1:35:40) just holding off Ryde Harrier Julie King (1:36:02) to be the first Island woman home. Next came Jodie Giffard (1:37:24) Hayley Baxter (1:40:03) to complete the IWRR team whilst Tracey Dillon (1:43:49) and Sally Roberts (1:50:44) were the other Harriers team members. IWAC had Rob Holdsworth (1:41:48) running and husband and wife team Julian (1:53:49) and Julia (2:11:23) Trout represented West Wight Road Runners. Congratulations to all who completed the 13.1 miles with many first time half-marathoneers amongst the Island contingent.
