Opening up a summer season of stories, Three Island StoryTellers (Sue Bailey, Holly Medland and Tony “Monty” Hirst) will present an evening of traditional tales at Ventnor Exchange on Tuesday 24th May from 7pm.
Promising a cornucopia of tales from a variety of traditions, from Eastern European folk tales to Irish myths, fairy tales (for adults!) to devil stories, and even an Island story or two, here’s a chance for you to catch up on what’s been happening once up a time.
Island Storytellers story circle
If you fancy telling a tale of your own, the Island Storytellers story circle meets on the third Tuesday each month, somewhere on the island.
The June gathering, on Tuesday 21st June, will be meeting at The Wight Mouse Inn, Chale, from 7pm. This welcoming and informal round table event is a great place to tell a five minute story for the first time, or just come along and listen. To find out where each month’s story circle will be held, make sure to check out Events OnTheWight a few days before…
Grab your tickets
A couple of days later, on Thursday 23rd June, the Three Island StoryTellers will be performing again at Boojum & Snark in Sandown, telling even more traditional tales.
Their first event at this atmospheric microbrewery in March sold out, so make sure to get your tickets well in advance.
Festival appearances
For the festival goers amongst you, a mixed metaphor feast of stories will be on tap at the Rhythmtree Festival and the Ventnor Fringe.
A host of story tellers from the Island and elsewhere will be appearing in the Spoke’n’Herd tent (spelling TBC!) at Rhythmtree, ably supported by sets from several spoken word, poetry and comedy collectives from the Island.
The story tent headliners are Pomme (Sally Pomme Clayton) and Katy Cawkwell, with feature sets from each of them on Saturday and Sunday. For anyone fancy telling their own tale in this festival setting, there’ll be an all-comers’ storyround on each day of the festival.
Ventnor Fringe
At the end of July, Ventnor Fringe will see a performance by members of the Island Storytellers story circle in Ventnor Library.
The Three Island StoryTellers will also be performing at the Ventnor Arts Club in a new guise, as ‘Tis Tales (you heard it here first!). For more details, check out the Ventnor Fringe website a little closer to the date…
