At a stormy public meeting last night (Saturday), residents of Apse Heath narrowly backed a plan to change the name of their village.
“Quite frankly, it’s down to pure economics” explained a spokesman for the campaign. “The cost of constantly changing our village road signs to read correctly has exhausted the local council budget. Consequently, from herein, the village shall officially be known as Arse Heath.”
The controversial move will bring to an end a local tradition going back generations, and not everyone backs the change.
It’s a tradition
“I’ve been adding a little black stick to that sign since I were a nipper, just like my father did before me and his father before him,” commented one disappointed resident. “Making Arse Heath the official name takes all the fun out of it.”
A local shop owner said the anticipated drop in sales of markers pens and black sticky tape to pranksters could cripple the store, although later admitted that sales of novelty bike stands are expected to rocket.
Residents of Puckpool were reportedly monitoring reaction to the name change at the time of writing.
