Isle of Arts: What’s On Today

The Isle of Arts Festival kicks off today with kite making workshops for children.

Digby FairweatherTaking place near the Marquee in Salisbury Gardens until around 3pm, it’s a lovely morning to be sat out in the sunshine.

If you’d rather shade your little ones from the sun, a puppet making workshop from noon in the Wight Light Gallery with local artist Theresa Grimaldi should do the trick.

Musical brunches
Once again there’s a superb variety of events taking place throughout the day. Why not enjoy musical brunch with jazz singer, Lee Gibson at the Marquee, or perhaps musical brunch with Dick Taylor and The Hillmans at the Boathouse (Spyglass Inn).

Pianist Harry Verey will be entertaining all at The Pond Cafe from 11am. The Ric Harris Duo will be dishing out smooth jazz tunes at the Crab and Lobster from midday.

More live music
For something a little different, there’s an Edward Elgar talk and string quartet recital taking place in the Baptist Church at 2.30pm and from 3pm at the Ventnor Towers Hotel, enjoy the music of Flanders and Swan.

At 4pm, head to the Boathouse at the Spyglass Inn to catch some lively and contemporary folk music by the brilliant, Beachcomber.

Masterclass and talks
There a Painting Masterclass With Russ Calver from 3pm at Wight Light Gallery

Author, Kathryn Ferry will be will be sharing her enthusiasm for seaside social history, buildings – and beach huts at the Royal Hotel at 2pm.

Crime writer, Pauline Rowson, will reveal what inspires her and how she researches and writes her novels at 4pm at the Royal Hotel

Barry Norman in conversation
There are still some tickets left to hear Barry Norman present Memoirs Of A Film Lover at 7pm in the Isle of Arts Marquee

Comedy and theatre
If you fancy checking out some fresh young things, the live Comedy at the Boathouse from 7pm should be up your street

A play, The Revenger’s Tragedy, takes place at the Ventnor Baptist Church at 7.30pm

The Finale
And last but by no means least, Digby Fairweather and his Half Dozen will be closing the festival at the Marquee from 9.30pm. We understand there are still some tickets left for this event, so come down and join us.
