On Monday 13th June, Jo Cooper, launched her latest book – A Red Sky – at Medina Bookshop in Cowes.
The book details the lives and experiences of two ten-year-old evacuees to the Isle of Wight.
Set in 1940, as the war starts to intensify, and Portsmouth and the South Coast become targets for the German War Planes with their bombing, Lyndy’s farther, who is an Auxillary Fireman in Portsmouth evacuates her to the Island as he stays and fights the fires.
Lyndy meets Reggie and we learn all about their escapades together, as well as how they live their lives as the war intensifies.
Jo researched the facts of the time including the night of 20th January 1941 when Portsmouth was blitzed and from the Island there was a red sky above the city.
With illustrations by Island Artist, Maria Ward, this is a book written for children but is being enjoyed by adults.
The book is available at Isle of Wight Book Shops for £7.99.
