Students and staff from St Catherine’s in Ventnor really got in to the spirit of things for World Book Day 2023, dressing up as a range of exciting characters.
Everyone from Mary Poppins to Bagpuss to Sherlock Holmes took part in the celebrations and the school’s Occupational Therapy team came as The Hungry Caterpillar, dressed as all the tasty treats the caterpillar ate with the school’s therapy dog, Dougal as the caterpillar.
As a special twist to Book Day this year, students focused on local authors and their books, including The Legend of Podkin One Ear by Kieran Larwood, Amy Wild and the Silly Squirrel by Diana Kimpton, and Hairy Fairy by Peta Painford.
Author visit
The school extended the celebrations by inviting the authors into school on Monday 6th March. The authors kindly gave their time to come and see all of the wonderful work the students had created on their books and the students were able to listen to them read and ask questions.
Jenn Snaith, Vice Principal who organised this year’s book day and the visit said,
“It was a fantastic afternoon and wonderful to see our students immerse themselves in stories written by local authors.
“We would like to thank Kieran, Diana and Peta for spending time with us and supporting such an exciting experience for our students.”
