Isle of Wight Book Awards 2023: Celebrating literary excellence – winners revealed

Earlier this week the second Isle of Wight Book Awards Grand Literary Lunch took place at the Island Sailing Club in Cowes.

From a healthy selection of entries of books published in 2022 the three category judges, best-selling authors Georgina Moore (fiction), Alan Tichmarsh (children’s) and Hunter Davies (non-fiction) each selected their top three titles.

All nine on the shortlist received a certificate, with the winner of each category receiving £200, the ‘Book Of The Year’ also received an additional £500.

Fiction

  • 1st – Death on the Isle by M.H. Eccleston (£200)
  • 2nd – Good Neighbours by Mary Grand 
  • 3rd – The Wyght Island Chronicles – Bk 1: The Piper by Matthew Ryan

Children’s

  • 1st – Twice Hexed by Julia Tuffs (£200)
  • 2nd – Maddie the Baddie by Alan Barbara
  • 3rd – A Red Sky – by Jo Cooper

Non-fiction

  • 1st – Out On An Island edited by Franko Figueiredo-Stow and Caroline Diamond (£200)
  • 2nd – Rough Diamond – Notes From A Big Island by George East
  • 3rd – Yarmouth  and  Shalfleet- Coastal Town and Country Parrish by Jill Cowley

Book of the Year

More than £400 was raised for Independent Arts at the event.
